A 57-year-old American runner passed away following a medical emergency while participating in the Detroit Free Press Marathon, race director Aaron Velthoven told CBC News.
The incident occurred around 8 kilometers into the race on the Windsor, Ontario, side.
The man was transported to a hospital in Windsor, where he was pronounced dead. Velthoven expressed condolences, saying, “Our hearts and condolences are with his family.
” Over 20,000 runners took part in the marathon and international half-marathon connecting Windsor and Detroit.
