Aaron Boone, the captain of the New York Yankees, seems hopeful that Nestor Cortes will be able to pitch in the World Series.
Aaron Boone stated that Nestor Cortes is likely to be on the World Series roster.
Cortes sustained an elbow injury shortly before the regular season finished, and he hasn’t pitched at all during these playoffs. It looks like Boone will take the mound once more after hinting at the lefty’s availability earlier in the playoffs.
During the ALCS game against the Cleveland Guardians last week, Cortes gave the hitters live batting practice. Boone sounded upbeat about his rehabilitation at that point:
Boone stated, “I believe he’s at least a feasible alternative.” “I can’t say for sure, but the timeframe suggests that he would be a possibility if everything goes according to plan.”
Boone stated, “The way it’s gone so far has been positive, but he still has stages to go and needs to keep feeling good and get better and stuff like that.”
For the Yankees in 2024, Cortes pitched well, going 9-10 with a 3.77 ERA. Since September 18, he has not climbed the hill. The southpaw will most likely start in the World Series from the bullpen due to his lack of postseason innings. But there’s also always a chance he starts a game on a pitch count.
If everything goes according to plan, the Cuban should be allowed to play in the World Series after throwing another live BP session on Tuesday. Boone will have flexibility in their quest for a title because to Cortes’ wealth of experience both as a starter and out of the bullpen.
On Friday, October 25, Dodger Stadium in Southern California will host the start of the Fall Classic. These two legendary teams will face off on the main stage for the twelfth time in MLB history.
New York Yankees and Los Angeles Dodgers will seek glory in the 2024 World Series
The New York Yankees will face off against the Los Angeles Dodgers for World Series glory, with both teams eager to add the Commissioner’s Trophy to their collection.
The “Bronx Bombers” secured their spot by defeating the Cleveland Guardians 4-1 in the American League Championship Series, while the California team triumphed 4-2 over the New York Mets in the National League Championship Series.
When was the last time the Yankees won the World Series?
It has been 15 years since the Yankees last won the World Series, which came in 2009 when they defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in six games, earning their 27th title in franchise history. The MVP of that series was pitcher Hideki Matsui.
Yankees and Dodgers history in World Series
This will be the twelfth time the Yankees and Dodgers face each other in a World Series. The last time they met was in 1981 (when the Dodgers were still based in Brooklyn), where the Dodgers won in six games after losing the first two. That victory marked their first World Series title since 1965 and the third time they had defeated the Yankees in the Fall Classic.
