Red Sox Expected to Sign $288 Million Deal with Orioles Ace
The Boston Red Sox, with a 57-50 record, don’t appear to be contenders for the World Series. Does Corbin Burnes make sense as a target as they get ready to start over this winter and bolster their roster?
According to Bleacher Report’s Zachary D. Rymer, yes. He said the ace of the Baltimore Orioles would sign a free agent contract with the Boston Red Sox.
There will be more of a window for other big spenders like the Mets, Rangers, and the team with the best pick here—the Red Sox—to sign Burnes if neither the Yankees nor the Dodgers go all out for him, Rymer wrote on August 1.
He projected a $288 million, eight-year contract between Burnes and Boston.
The Red Sox used to spend roughly $60 million more than they do now, according to Rymer’s writing. “They should use this winter as an excuse to return to those times, since their current squad appears to be a serious contender worth making significant financial investments in.”
In 2024, Burnes has a 2.47 ERA and is 11-4. With just 33 walks in 138.2 innings pitched, he has struck out 128 batters.
