PHILADELPHIA CBS) — Knowing Carlos Estévez embraced the “Philadelphia mentality” with his bulldog style on the mound, Dave Dombrowski thought Estévez was the perfect fit for the Philadelphia Phillies.

At 6-foot-6 and 277 pounds, Estévez already has a bulldog body for a pitcher, so the nickname fits him nicely. Since Rob Thomson took over as manager two summers ago, the Phillies have ingrained a “Philadelphia mentality” in their clubhouse.

Estévez only wishes to amplify it.

“It doesn’t matter what these guys go about business,” Estévez declared when he arrived at the Phillies on Monday. “We’re going to continue attacking and competing. We’ll figure out how to maintain our dominance.”

When reinforcements are needed for the bullpen, Estévez will undoubtedly join the Phillies. Estévez, one of the top closers in baseball this year, has tossed 34 innings with 32 strikeouts and 5 walks, recording a 2.38 ERA. Estévez has been pitching quite well lately; in his last 22 appearances, he has a 0.40 ERA and has given up only one earned run in 22.1 innings.
