Boston — After obtaining catcher Danny Jansen from the Blue Jays on Saturday in exchange for three prospects, the Red Sox designated backup catcher Reese McGuire for assignment on Sunday.
When asked about Boston’s decision to trade for Jansen and let go of McGuire, manager Alex Cora responded, “I think it’s more about the roster actually than the position.”
