For two minor leaguers, the Rangers get catcher Carson Kelly from the Tigers.
Kelly, who batted.240 with seven home runs and 29 RBIs in 60 games for the Tigers this season, will probably back up Gold Glove winner Jonah Heim. During portions of nine seasons with St. Louis, Arizona, and Detroit, he had a career.224 average, 52 home runs, and 199 RBIs.
Tyler Owens, a right-hander, and catcher Liam Hicks were acquired by the Tigers. This season, in 80 games with Double-A Frisco, Hicks was hitting.260 with four home runs and 33 RBIs, while in 26 appearances for Frisco, Owens was 2-0 with a 2.80 ERA and eight saves.
After sweeping three games in Toronto this past weekend, the reigning World Series champion Rangers, who are currently third in the AL West, will begin a three-game series at St. Louis on Monday night.
