Patty Gasso, head coach of the University of Oklahoma softball team, has been awarded a groundbreaking contract extension, solidifying her status as the highest-paid coach in college softball.
The OU Board of Regents approved a new deal in September 2024 that extends her contract through the 2028 season and increases her annual compensation to an average of $2 million.
Under the terms of the extension, Gasso’s base salary from the university is set at $300,000, with an additional $825,000 in private funding—an amount that will rise by $50,000 each year. She is also entitled to a $200,000 stay bonus paid annually on February 1 and a $300,000 retirement fund, which will increase to $400,000 starting in 2025. Furthermore, Gasso is eligible for a $150,000 performance bonus if the Sooners secure another national championship.
This contract extension comes on the heels of an unprecedented achievement: Gasso led the Sooners to their fourth consecutive national title in 2024, making them the first program in NCAA softball history to accomplish such a feat. Her tenure at Oklahoma has been marked by remarkable success, including eight national championships and over 1,500 career wins.
In recognition of her contributions to the program, the university unveiled a statue of Gasso outside Love’s Field in Norman, further cementing her legacy as a transformative figure in collegiate softball.
Looking ahead, Gasso expressed enthusiasm about the future of the program, noting the influx of talented underclassmen poised to continue the Sooners’ tradition of excellence. Her commitment to rebuilding and leading the team to future successes underscores her enduring passion and dedication to the sport.
With this historic contract extension, Patty Gasso remains at the helm of a program that continues to set the standard for excellence in college softball.
