Rafael Nadal offers injury update and declares possible return date

Rafael Nadal, the 22-time Grand Slam champion, has provided an update on his ongoing injury recovery, revealing that abdominal issues have led to a three-month setback in his return to competitive tennis.

The 37-year-old Spaniard, who has not played since his return from a year-long absence in Brisbane in January, has been consistently training at the Rafa Nadal Academy in Mallorca. However, his latest withdrawal from the Monte-Carlo Masters has cast doubt on his availability for the French Open at the end of May.

In an interview with Spanish broadcaster Movistar, Nadal expressed the challenges he is facing, stating, “My body won’t let me [return]. It’s getting difficult for me. It’s been a difficult year and a half, I’m trying every day.” He further mentioned that he is not ruling out a return to his favourite clay court surface in Barcelona or the Madrid Masters, but at the moment, he is not able to compete due to physical problems.

Despite these setbacks, Nadal remains hopeful and is focusing on his recovery with the aim of returning to the tour. His team is working diligently to address the abdominal issues, and he continues to monitor his progress day by day. While his participation in the upcoming tournaments is uncertain, Nadal’s determination and commitment to his recovery process remain evident.

As the tennis world eagerly awaits his return, Nadal’s resilience and dedication to the sport continue to inspire fans and fellow athletes alike.
