Oklahoma Sooners softball head coach Patty Gasso has expressed both excitement and a commitment to growth as her team embarks on a new chapter in 2025.
After securing four consecutive national championships, the Sooners enter their inaugural season in the Southeastern Conference (SEC) with a roster that blends seasoned talent with a significant influx of new players.
Reflecting on this transition, Gasso shared that this season presents unique challenges, including the loss of 10 seniors and the addition of 14 newcomers. Despite these changes, she remains enthusiastic about the team’s potential, emphasizing the importance of embracing the process and maintaining a “lioness mentality”—a mindset inspired by the television show Lioness, which embodies strength, resilience, and a relentless pursuit of goals.
In terms of gameplay, Gasso is particularly focused on developing her pitching staff. While the team may not have a singular dominant ace, she is confident in the collective strength of her pitchers. Senior Sam Landry is currently leading the rotation, with freshman Audrey Lowry emerging as a formidable presence on the mound. Other pitchers, including Paytn Monticelli and Bella Smith, are also contributing significantly, showcasing the depth and versatility of the staff.
