Lewis Hamilton has recently voiced strong criticism regarding the FIA’s new Formula 1 regulations, expressing concerns over their potential impact on the sport’s competitiveness and excitement.
The 2026 regulations introduce significant changes, including a 30kg weight reduction, a 10cm narrower build, and the replacement of the Drag Reduction System (DRS) with active aerodynamics. While these adjustments aim to enhance overtaking and sustainability, Hamilton has labeled them as “terrible,” fearing they might render the cars slower and more challenging to drive, potentially diminishing the quality of racing
Additionally, Hamilton has criticized the FIA’s inconsistent application of rules, particularly concerning aggressive driving tactics. He argues that such “grey area” rules allow drivers like Max Verstappen to exploit loopholes, leading to inconsistent stewarding decisions that undermine the sport’s integrity .
In response to Red Bull’s dominant performance, Hamilton has proposed that all teams should be restricted from developing next season’s car until a specific date, such as August 1. This would prevent teams from gaining an early advantage and promote a more level playing field.
