LaNorris Sellers can create plays out of nothing with his legs. Mike Shula wants those legs to have a bit more flexibility attached to them this year.
Shula’s first spring press conference as South Carolina’s offensive coordinator took place on March 24. He discussed his observations from the first two practices as well as his goals for the future.
Shula stated, “We want to continue where we left off at the end of the year, not at the beginning. We looked at defenses, getting your eyes in the proper place a little bit quicker, making wise decisions quicker, stuff like that, and other things in the offseason.
Sellers carried the offense toward the end of the previous season, which helped USC go on a six-game winning streak. His 20-yard game-winning score at Clemson to complete the rivalry victory was one of many of those runs.
These runs are typically the result of sellers’ creativity rather than design.
Shula hinted that she would like to blur the distinction between Sellers’ play and playing inside the system. He would prefer that Sellers run when he wants to rather than when he has to, even if he doesn’t want to take away his talent.
Shula stated, “You may have to run with the football less frequently if you can process and make wise decisions with it more quickly.” “We don’t want to take away his capacity to run because he’s actually quite good at it.
Next year, the receivers in the recruiting class ought to be able to assist their quarterback. Jordan Gidron, Malik Clark, and other freshmen will try to establish themselves as one of Sellers’ preferred men.
Shula stated, “They know they could have an early opportunity, but they also know it’s going to take a lot of work.” According to what we’ve seen in the first few days, they can run, they’re swift, and they’ve demonstrated that they can catch the ball. Hopefully, they’ll keep doing this.
