Service preparations announced for late Ohio State player

Services for former Ohio State football player Ben Christman have been announced in his obituary on Akron’s Hummel Funeral Home website.

According to the obituary, he died peacefully in his sleep on Feb. 11 — a day before his 22nd birthday.

Christman was a native of Akron who attended Revere High School. He was a four-star offensive lineman in the 2021 recruiting class who signed with Ohio State.

After two years with the Buckeyes, Christman transferred to Kentucky in 2023 and then transferred to UNLV in December 2024.

He was entering his first season with the Rebels.

“The members of the Ohio State football program are saddened to learn of the passing of Ben Christman, a member of our team in 2021 and 2022,” Ohio State shared via its football program’s X account last week. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and those who knew Ben well.”

In lieu of flowers, the Christman family asks that donations be made to the Ben Christman Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Here is information regarding services for Christman:

  • Visiting hours will be from 3-7 p.m. Thursday at St. Sebastian Catholic Church in Akron.
  • A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.
