In a strategic move that reinforces continuity and team stability, true freshman Cam Scott, redshirt freshman Arden Conyers, and sophomore Jordan Butler have all committed to returning to USC for the upcoming season. This decision comes despite a difficult 12-20 campaign that included only two SEC victories and an early tournament exit.
Scott’s return, in particular, addressed a significant uncertainty. As USC’s fourth-highest-rated recruit in program history, he entered the season with considerable expectations. However, his playing time diminished as the season progressed, leaving him more of a sideline observer than an on-court contributor.
Rather than pursuing alternative opportunities, Scott reframed his freshman season as a “learning experience,” recognizing its value for his development and future contributions.
“I embraced every outcome, every challenge, and every scenario I faced,” Scott stated. “Whether on the floor or supporting my teammates from the sidelines, I aimed to energize and uplift the group, even during challenging moments.”
Scott’s positive outlook reflects a maturity uncommon in players facing limited minutes amid team struggles. While many in his position might have felt disheartened, Scott remained committed to adding value wherever possible.
“Not at all,” Scott responded when asked if frustration set in. “Being around basketball is something I truly love. Sharing over 30 games with these teammates — whom I consider brothers — has been an incredible experience. The coaching staff has also been phenomenal.”
Although his individual metrics were modest — averaging 2.3 points per game on 25% shooting, including 14% from three-point range — Scott capitalized on his opportunities. Notably, in USC’s SEC Tournament loss to Arkansas, he delivered his strongest performance since December, contributing eight points and converting two key three-pointers with perfect accuracy in the second half.
Looking ahead, Scott aims to build on those moments and enhance his overall skill set in the upcoming season.
“Getting on the floor and contributing was important,” Scott emphasized. “Carrying that momentum forward is key.”
With Scott, Butler, and Conyers anchoring the roster, USC has established a promising foundation. Both Butler and Conyers earned meaningful roles in the rotation as the season unfolded, underscoring their potential to drive the program’s resurgence.
While USC’s rebuild remains a work in progress, maintaining roster consistency provides a crucial advantage. Securing this trio’s commitment — particularly after a challenging season — marks a significant organizational win and positions the Gamecocks for stronger performance in the year ahead.
