Ashlyn Watkins, a forward for the South Carolina women’s basketball team, has had the assault and kidnapping charges against her dismissed, according to online judicial records. Watkins was arrested on August 31, 2024, leading to her suspension from team activities. She did not join her teammates for the White House visit in September, where they were honored by President Biden for their national championship win.

The charges were officially dismissed on November 1, 2024. Following this development, the University of South Carolina lifted Watkins’ suspension, allowing her to return to team activities starting with practice on November 6, 2024.

Watkins played a pivotal role in South Carolina’s undefeated national championship season prior to the incident. The 6-foot-3 forward led the Southeastern Conference with 91 blocks and averaged 9.2 points and 7.4 rebounds per game. She also made history by recording the first two dunks in the program’s history during her freshman and sophomore years.

With the legal issues resolved, Watkins is expected to make a significant impact upon her return to the court. Her presence is anticipated to bolster South Carolina’s lineup as they continue their season.
