Just In: Tottenham leading race to sign Everton defender

Tottenham Hotspur are apparently negotiating with many teams to recruit Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite, according to Caught Offside.

Ange Postecoglou prefers to play high-pressing football with a very high defensive line. So the Australian manager requires speedy centre-backs to adequately implement his method.

Spurs rely on Micky Van de Ven, one of the Premier League’s fastest defenders, to provide impressive performances. However, without the Dutchman, they have struggled to sustain their current level.

He has been dealing with injuries this season, and the Lilywhites do not have a competent backup for him. Postecoglou plans to add a new defender in the upcoming transfer window to help the former Wolfsburg player.

According to Caught Offside, Tottenham are interested in signing Branthwaite for the upcoming season.

Branthwaite to Tottenham

The 22-year-old has been a key member of Everton’s defence in recent years, and the club does not want to lose him just yet. They intend to sign him to a new long-term contract, with his current deal slated to expire in 2027, but if they are forced to cash out next summer, they expect a fee of about £70.

Spurs are not the only team interested in hiring him; Manchester United, Liverpool, and Real Madrid have previously expressed interest and may renew it next summer.

Branthwaite, who stands 6ft 5in tall, is good in the air, highly quick, comfortable playing out of the back, and makes valuable defensive contributions. As a result, he would be an excellent choice to help Van de Ven.

During his loan stay with PSV Eindhoven, the kid even played in the RCB position, which allowed him to be paired with the Dutchman.

The Englishman is already an elite player with the potential to become a world-class centre-back in the future. As a result, he would be a huge coup for Tottenham if they can eventually get his services by defeating their opponents in this competition.

Meanwhile, following three consecutive victories in the Premier League, Tottenham will face off against Manchester City in midweek.
