Vanderbilt had no answer for Auburn’s tenacity on Tuesday, which impressed Mark Byington.
On Tuesday, the No. 2 Auburn Tigers earned another SEC win by taking down Vanderbilt, 80-68, at the pestiferous Memorial Gymnasium in Nashville.
The Tigers connected on over half of their shots from the field including nine three-point attempts, scored 19 points on 12 Vanderbilt turnovers, and received 29 points from their bench players. Their recipe for success also included 20-point efforts from Denver Jones and Chaney Johnson.
While the score and the stat sheet show the Tigers’ dominating effort, their resilience and tenacity ultimately lifted them to victory. After jumping out to a 15-0 lead to begin the game, Auburn squandered away the lead to Vanderbilt in the early stages of the second half before piecing together a 29-19 run over the final 13:51 to secure the win.
