Throughout his 15-year NRL career, Sam Thaiday was renowned for these qualities. But earlier this week, Thaiday showed both bravery and tenderness when he forced back tears during a heartbreaking confession.
Fans of the celebrity were shocked when the former Bronco revealed his motivations for joining the show while sitting with his other campmates in an episode of I’m a Celebrity.
Thaiday courageously admitted, “I wanted to kill myself when I was 13 years old.” “As a young kid, I really struggled to find my place.”
The former Broncos captain praised a very significant person in his life and talked about how this difficult period lead him to the show.
“Find Your Feet is the name of my charity. Tommy Herschel, a former Queensland Maroons forward, is in charge of it.
He visits schools to assist young guys and provides a secure environment for them to express their emotions and discuss their feelings. I had the opportunity to observe one of his sessions and was struck by how courageous some of these young guys were to open up and share their own narratives.
Thaiday talked on the impact he thinks Herschel would have had on him as a child and the significance of spreading his message now.
“When I considered suicide, I wished I had someone like Tommy to reassure me that it was acceptable to express my emotions.
I just felt he needed assistance because he’s now a bit of a one-man show. That’s the reason I’m in here. And hopefully, even though I don’t have to win, I simply want to spread the word about him and get people to talk about it.
Despite being a superstar in the NRL, Thaiday acknowledged that he had a difficult time fitting in as a child, which contributed to his early depression.
The celebrity fought back tears as she remarked, “I didn’t know where I fit in, and I found myself too white to be black and too black to be white.”As the 39-year-old talked about his difficult history, many of his campmates were moved to tears by Thaiday’s brave admission.
Tommy Herschel intends to help many young guys who are facing similar challenges to Thaiday’s by gaining some favorable publicity for his nonprofit, Find Your Feet.
The former prop is considered a representative legend for Queensland and Australia and one of the best Brisbane Broncos players of all time. As he continues his mission to support young people nationwide, Thaiday is undoubtedly looking to have a bigger influence off the field.
