Joe Burrow Reacts to Bengals Sign QB Logan Woodside to Practice Squad

In a move aimed at bolstering their quarterback depth, the Cincinnati Bengals have signed veteran quarterback Logan Woodside to their practice squad. This strategic addition comes as the Bengals continue to navigate the challenges of maintaining a competitive roster during a season where every game counts.

Who is Logan Woodside?

Logan Woodside is a name familiar to football enthusiasts who have followed his steady journey through the NFL. Drafted in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals, Woodside began his professional career right where he now returns. The University of Toledo standout showcased his skills in college by throwing for over 10,000 yards and setting school records for career passing touchdowns.

After being waived by the Bengals in 2018, Woodside took an unconventional path to remain in the game, including a stint in the now-defunct Alliance of American Football (AAF). His performance with the San Antonio Commanders caught the attention of the Tennessee Titans, where he spent multiple seasons as a backup and practice squad quarterback.

Woodside’s NFL experience, while not extensive, includes appearances in regular-season games, where he has demonstrated poise and knowledge of the game. His ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems makes him a valuable addition to any team looking for reliable depth at the quarterback position.

Why the Bengals Signed Woodside

The Bengals’ decision to sign Logan Woodside comes at a critical juncture in their season. While the team is led by star quarterback Joe Burrow, questions about depth and injury preparedness loom large in the NFL, where seasons can turn on a single play.

By adding Woodside to the practice squad, the Bengals are not just bringing in another arm; they are securing a proven professional who understands the rigors of the league. Woodside’s familiarity with the Bengals organization, coupled with his previous NFL experience, ensures that he can quickly assimilate into their offensive system.

Moreover, the Bengals’ coaching staff likely values Woodside’s work ethic and reputation as a diligent student of the game. For a team with playoff aspirations, having a quarterback who can step in seamlessly during emergencies or provide support in practice is invaluable.

Implications for the Bengals’ Roster

The addition of Logan Woodside also reflects the Bengals’ broader roster strategy. Practice squad players are increasingly becoming integral parts of NFL teams, especially with recent rule changes allowing them to be elevated to active rosters on game days.

For Woodside, this signing represents an opportunity to prove his worth once again in the league. For the Bengals, it offers a layer of security behind Burrow and the other quarterbacks on the roster.

This move might also signal a willingness by the Bengals to prioritize competition and readiness across all positions. Whether Woodside remains on the practice squad or sees game action, his presence will undoubtedly push everyone in the quarterback room to perform at their best.

What’s Next for Woodside and the Bengals?

As the Bengals gear up for the second half of the season, Logan Woodside’s role will be closely watched. While he may not see immediate game action, his contributions in practice and readiness as a backup cannot be understated.

For Woodside, this signing offers a chance to reignite his NFL career. For the Bengals, it’s a smart move to strengthen their depth chart and prepare for the uncertainties of a demanding league schedule.

The Bengals’ roster update is more than just a transaction; it’s a testament to their commitment to building a well-rounded, competitive team. Whether Woodside becomes a key contributor or remains a steady presence in the background, this signing is another example of how the Bengals are thinking ahead in their pursuit of success.
