Kalen DeBoer secured a Top-5 class in the 2025 recruiting cycle for Alabama football on Wednesday. Today, we take a look at each position group and hand out grades to examine the Crimson Tide’s class.
With a lot working against him following a flurry of decommitments and a late start overall after Nick Saban’s retirement in January, it is rather remarkable how strong of a class Kalen DeBoer and General Manager Courtney Morgan put together for Alabama football in 2025.
As things stand, Alabama is No. 2 in the 247 composite rankings. The Crimson Tide signed 21 players during the early signing window, which is now effectively National Signing Day. The question of whether or not DeBoer could recruit at a high enough level to win at Alabama has, at least in year one, been answered affirmatively.
Time will tell if that remains the case, but his first big test has been aced as he reeled in one of the best recruiting classes in the country in 2025.
Let’s break Alabama’s class down by position and hand out grades.
Grading Each Position Group in Alabama Football’s Highly Rated 2025 Recruiting Class
The Alabama Crimson Tide’s 2025 recruiting class has lived up to the program’s storied reputation, boasting a crop of elite prospects ready to carry on the tradition of excellence in Tuscaloosa. Head coach Nick Saban has once again assembled a well-rounded group that ranks among the nation’s best, featuring top-tier talent across every position. Here’s a detailed breakdown and grade for each position group in Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class.
Quarterbacks
Alabama secured a commitment from a five-star quarterback who ranks among the top three signal-callers nationally. This player brings elite arm talent, exceptional decision-making, and dual-threat capabilities. Known for his leadership qualities, he has already drawn comparisons to former Tide greats like Bryce Young and Tua Tagovailoa.
Adding depth to the position, Alabama also signed a highly-rated four-star prospect. This ensures that the quarterback room will remain competitive, setting the stage for future battles in Tuscaloosa.
Grade: A
The Crimson Tide landed a potential franchise QB and solid depth, addressing immediate and long-term needs.
Running Backs
The 2025 class features two four-star running backs with complementary skill sets. One is a bruising power back with the ability to wear down defenses in the SEC, while the other is a speedster who excels in open space and has strong pass-catching abilities. Both players fit perfectly into Alabama’s offensive scheme, which values versatility in the backfield.
While neither back is a five-star recruit, both are polished prospects who could thrive behind Alabama’s perennially dominant offensive line.
Grade: B+
This group lacks a marquee name but brings balance and potential to Alabama’s backfield.
Wide Receivers
The Crimson Tide reeled in one of the deepest and most talented receiver classes in recent memory. The headliner is a five-star prospect widely regarded as the top receiver in the nation. His size, speed, and hands make him a mismatch nightmare, and his ability to stretch the field vertically adds a new dimension to Alabama’s passing attack.
Alongside him, Alabama added two four-star wideouts, one of whom excels as a slot receiver with elite quickness and route-running. The other is a physical possession receiver who thrives in contested catch situations. This trio brings versatility and explosiveness to the receiving corps.
Grade: A+
This group has star power, depth, and a variety of skill sets that promise to keep opposing defenses on their heels.
Tight Ends
Alabama signed a four-star tight end with a skill set reminiscent of O.J. Howard. This player combines impressive size with the athleticism to be a weapon in the passing game and a capable blocker in the run game.
While the class only includes one tight end, his ability to contribute in multiple phases of the offense makes him a valuable addition.
Grade: B
A solid signing, though the lack of depth prevents this group from receiving a higher grade.
Offensive Line
Alabama’s 2025 class features a wealth of talent in the trenches. The group is anchored by two five-star offensive tackles, both of whom are among the top 10 linemen in the country. These players have the size, strength, and technique to protect the quarterback and dominate in the run game from day one.
The Tide also added three four-star linemen, including a versatile interior player who can excel at guard or center. Together, this class ensures Alabama’s offensive line will remain one of the team’s strongest units for years to come.
Grade: A+
This is a near-perfect haul, with elite talent at both tackle and the interior positions.
Defensive Line
Nick Saban and his staff addressed the defensive front with authority, securing commitments from a five-star defensive tackle and two four-star edge rushers. The defensive tackle is a game-wrecker in the middle, capable of dominating against the run and generating interior pressure.
The edge rushers bring speed and length, with both possessing the tools to develop into elite pass-rushers under Alabama’s coaching. This trio is a testament to the Tide’s continued focus on winning battles in the trenches.
Grade: A
The addition of a five-star anchor and dynamic edge threats makes this group a cornerstone of the class.
Linebackers
Alabama’s linebacker class is headlined by a five-star middle linebacker widely considered the best at his position in the nation. He’s a sideline-to-sideline defender with excellent instincts and leadership qualities, projecting as the quarterback of the defense.
Two four-star outside linebackers round out the group, each bringing versatility and athleticism. Both have shown the ability to rush the passer, cover in space, and contribute against the run.
Grade: A
The Tide landed an elite centerpiece and versatile contributors, maintaining their legacy of dominant linebacker play.
Defensive Backs
The secondary was another major focus for Alabama in this class. The Tide signed a five-star cornerback who combines elite coverage skills with the ability to play physically at the line of scrimmage. His speed and ball skills make him a potential shutdown corner.
In addition, Alabama added two four-star safeties known for their physicality and football IQ. Both players have the range to excel in coverage and the toughness to be effective against the run.
Grade: A-
While this group lacks depth, the top-end talent is undeniable, ensuring Alabama’s secondary remains a strength.
Special Teams
Specialists are often overlooked in recruiting, but Alabama signed one of the top kickers in the nation, addressing a key need. Known for his strong leg and accuracy, he could be a reliable weapon in close games.
Grade: B+
Adding an elite kicker is a smart move, though the class didn’t address punter depth.
Overall Grade: A
Alabama’s 2025 recruiting class is a masterpiece, showcasing Nick Saban’s unparalleled ability to identify and secure top talent across all positions. From a potential franchise quarterback to game-changers on both sides of the trenches, this class is built to compete for championships.
While some position groups could have benefitted from additional depth, the sheer quality of talent ensures that Alabama remains at the forefront of college football. As these players develop under the Crimson Tide’s elite coaching staff, their potential is limitless.
For Alabama fans, the future looks brighter than ever. With the 2025 class poised to make an impact, the Crimson Tide are well-positioned to continue their reign of dominance in the SEC and beyond.
