Get ready for fireworks on the field — the Red River Rivalry is back, and this time, it’s the softball squads stealing the spotlight. This weekend, No. 1 Oklahoma and No. 5 Texas are set to collide in one of the most anticipated series of the 2025 college softball season.

The stakes couldn’t be higher as these two powerhouse programs — now both full-fledged members of the SEC — prepare for a three-game showdown packed with postseason implications, championship energy, and a whole lot of history.

Scheduled to kick off Friday night under the lights at Marita Hynes Field, the series will feature two of the sport’s most elite rosters, including All-American pitchers, explosive offenses, and coaching legends on both sides. The Sooners enter the weekend undefeated in conference play, riding a 23-game win streak, while the Longhorns are hungry to shake up the rankings and prove they can hang with the reigning national champs.

“This isn’t just another SEC series — this is personal,” said Texas head coach Mike White. “We know what’s at stake, and we’re coming in with something to prove.”

Oklahoma, led by head coach Patty Gasso and anchored by senior phenom [Star Player Name], is looking to keep its momentum rolling as the postseason looms. But Texas, with its powerful lineup and clutch performances all season, isn’t just looking to compete —they’re looking to win.

“You can throw out the rankings when it’s Red River,” said Gasso. “Every pitch, every at-bat, every inning — it’s going to matter.”

Fans are expected to pack the stands, with tickets selling out in minutes and national media spotlighting what many are calling a potential preview of the Women’s College World Series. The rivalry, already rich in tradition on the football field, is quickly becoming one of the most electric matchups in softball.

The first pitch is set for 7 p.m. CT Friday, with games two and three following on Saturday and Sunday. Broadcast coverage will air live on ESPN networks
