Oklahoma Sooners junior infielder Dayton Tockey has been ruled out for the remainder of the regular season due to a hairline fracture in his right ankle, sustained during the eighth inning of Thursday’s 8–6 victory over Georgia in Athens. The injury occurred as Tockey slid into second base following a groundout after hitting an infield single. He was attended to by medical staff on the field and required assistance to leave the field and enter the clubhouse.
Prior to the injury, Tockey had delivered a standout performance, going 4-for-4 with two home runs and five RBIs, marking his most productive game of the season. His batting average had risen to .314, ranking fourth on the team, and he had contributed nine home runs and 36 RBIs. Additionally, Tockey had reached base in 18 consecutive games, showcasing his consistency and offensive prowess.
The Sooners, currently ranked No. 13 nationally with a 30–11 overall record and 11–8 in Southeastern Conference play, will now look to adjust their lineup in Tockey’s absence. His injury adds to the challenges faced by the team, as they aim to maintain their competitive edge in the SEC standings.
While Tockey is expected to miss the remainder of the regular season, there is hope that he may return for the postseason, depending on his recovery progress. The Sooners will continue to monitor his condition and provide updates as necessary.
