One notable recipient is Grace Lyons, who was named the 2023 Big 12 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year. A graduate of Biomedical Engineering with a GPA of 3.88, Lyons exemplifies the balance between academic excellence and athletic prowess. During the 2023 season, she hit .331 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs, earning her second consecutive Big 12 Defensive Player of the Year award. Additionally, she became the first Sooner to receive the Rawlings Gold Glove Award for her exceptional play at shortstop.
Another standout is Jayda Coleman, who earned the D1Softball Defensive Player of the Year honor. Known for her game-changing defensive plays, Coleman was instrumental in securing Oklahoma’s third consecutive national title. Her remarkable catch in the 2023 Women’s College World Series, robbing a home run, highlighted her defensive prowess and solidified her reputation as one of the nation’s top outfielders.
Jordy Bahl also garnered national recognition, being named the D1Softball Pitcher of the Year. In her sophomore season, Bahl posted a 22-1 record with a 0.90 ERA and 192 strikeouts. Her performance in the 2023 Women’s College World Series earned her the Most Outstanding Player award, underscoring her dominance in the circle.
