Geno Smith QB, Reportedly Takes Drastic Step as Raiders Refuse to Sign Extended Contract Deal.

A contract extension appeared to have been included in the transaction when the Las Vegas Raiders acquired quarterback Geno Smith. He hasn’t signed a new deal, though, and he has been a part of the team since March 13.

Smith wants an extension because his contract is about to expire. He left the Seattle Seahawks for that reason, among others. If they are unable to reach a consensus, the Raiders might have an issue.

The Athletic’s Tashan Reed claims that Smith would seriously think about waiting to play for Las Vegas.

Reed wrote, “Smith signed a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks in 2023, and he is currently in the last year of that contract”.” His $14.8 million 2025 salary is not guaranteed, despite the fact that he received a $16 million roster bonus on March 16. According to league sources, Smith is unlikely to play without a new contract.

This could be the reason the Raiders haven’t announced Smith’s arrival to the team at a press conference. Nevertheless, the group is keen to close a deal.

Head coach Pete Carroll stated, “We’re working on it,” during the league’s annual meeting in Florida on Monday. “G is eager to start and get going. We’re working on it, but he’ll be here once we start.”

If the Raiders didn’t want to pay Smith, it’s hard to see how they would trade for him with a third-round pick. It would be fascinating to watch whether Las Vegas selects a quarterback early in the draft if this continues, in case the Smith situation doesn’t resolve.
