Derby County had Matt Hamshaw and Andy Warrington on their coaching staff during the days of Paul Warne – and even shortly after.
Derby County’s former first team coach Matt Hamshaw and former goalkeeping coach Andy Warrington have returned to work – and to Rotherham United – after their respective Rams departures.
Hamshaw and Warrington joined Paul Warne at Derby when the former boss left Rotherham to take over the reins at Pride Park shortly after the commencement of the 2022-23 season; the coaching unit, fronted by Warne, guided Derby back to the Championship at the second time of asking last season.
Warne, though, was relieved of his duties in February with the Rams under serious threat of an immediate return to League One after an extensive run of defeats which cost Warne his job. While assistant Richie Barker left alongside Warne, Hamshaw and Warrington initially remained to steer the ship.
Derby shortly after unveiled John Eustace as their new boss and, although Hamshaw and Warrington were offered the opportunity to stay and continue in their respective roles, the club announced in February that the pair had left Pride Park following the appointment.
There was another managerial development on Sunday in the third tier; Steve Evans, in his second stint in charge of Rotherham, was sacked following the Millers’ 4-0 home loss to Crawley Town on Saturday. Rotherham were expected to be contesting for promotion this term but they have underwhelmed in the bottom third of the division.
In a statement, Rotherham confirmed the exit of Evans and his staff and the returns of Hamshaw and Warrington on an interim basis, while they source Evans’ long-term successor.
“Rotherham United can confirm that, following a meeting between the Chairman and Manager this morning, the club have parted company with First Team Manager Steve Evans together with Paul Raynor, Gary Mills and Ian Pledger, with immediate effect,” the statement read.
“Steve was re-appointed in April last year, taking charge of 50 games in all competitions during his most recent tenure. Everyone at Rotherham United would like to thank Steve, Paul and their coaching team for all their efforts and wish them well in their future endeavours.
