NCAAB News: Former Drake HC Darian DeVries breaks silence after joining Indiana Hoosiers… Read more

Darian DeVries has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indiana Hoosiers men’s basketball team, succeeding Mike Woodson, who stepped down after four seasons.

DeVries, 49, joins Indiana after a brief yet impactful tenure at West Virginia University, where he led the Mountaineers to a 19-13 record, including significant victories over top teams like Gonzaga, Kansas, and Iowa State. Prior to West Virginia, DeVries spent six successful seasons at Drake University, achieving six consecutive 20-win seasons and earning three NCAA Tournament bids.

At Indiana, DeVries faces the challenge of restructuring a roster that has seen departures, including key players like Gabe Cupps and Malik Reneau. Rebuilding trust and enthusiasm among the Hoosiers’ fanbase, which has been strained in recent years, will also be a priority

In his introductory press conference, DeVries expressed excitement about leading the historic IU Basketball program and emphasized his commitment to assembling a competitive team.

DeVries’ appointment is seen as a significant move for Indiana, aiming to restore the program to its former prominence in college basketball.
