Aert to Support Sepp Kuss in Vuelta a España Title Defense
Wout van Aert will be part of the Visma-Lease a Bike team supporting Sepp Kuss in his title defense at the Vuelta a España. The team’s roster for the Spanish Grand Tour was announced on Wednesday.
Van Aert, who has been focusing on the Classics and one-day races in recent years, will make his first appearance at the Vuelta a España since 2019. The Belgian rider has been in excellent form this season, winning several stages at the Tour de France and finishing second at the Tour of Flanders.
Kuss, who won the Vuelta a España last year, will be looking to defend his title with the support of a strong team. The American rider has been training at altitude in recent weeks and is expected to be in top form for the start of the Vuelta a España on August 26.
“We’re excited to have Wout van Aert on our team for the Vuelta a España,” said Visma-Lease a Bike team manager, Richard Plugge. “He’s a talented rider who can make a big impact in the sprints and the Classics. We’re confident that he’ll be able to support Sepp Kuss in his title defense.”
The Visma-Lease a Bike team for the Vuelta a España will also include other strong riders such as Jonas Vingegaard, Primoz Roglic, and Christophe Laporte.
“We have a very strong team for the Vuelta a España,” said Plugge. “We’re confident that we can support Sepp Kuss in his title defense and also compete for stage wins with our other riders.”
The Vuelta a España will take place from August 26 to September 17, covering a total distance of 3,297 kilometers. The race will feature 21 stages, including several mountainous stages and individual time trials.
Van Aert’s participation in the Vuelta a España will be an interesting addition to the race, as he will be looking to support Kuss in the mountains while also competing for stage wins in the sprints.
