The latest Birmingham City injury news as the club prepares to face Northampton Town in League One this weekend.
Birmingham City have added two more players to their treatment room this week in Emil Hansson and Taylor Gardner-Hickman.
Gardner-Hickman missed the win over Stevenage on Tuesday and Hansson had to be substituted at half-time.
Blues will be hoping Hansson isn’t set for another spell on the sidelines after missing two lengthy periods this season and only recently returning from a separate muscular issue.
Hansson will be assessed before Blues’ trip to Northampton this weekend but Gardner-Hickman and Ethan Laird (hamstring) are expected to miss out.
Lee Buchanan (knee), Scott Wright (knee) and Lyndon Dykes (calf) are long-term absentees.
Emil Hansson
Injury: Calf
Davies says Hansson was withdrawn as a precaution midway through Blues’ win over Stevenage. The winger felt his calf and is now a doubt for the game against Northampton this weekend.
Davies said: “There was a precaution on Emil because of his calf. It was a bit tight. He obviously made a lot of runs in that first half and he was getting a lot of the ball.”
Taylor Gardner-Hickman
Injury: Unspecified
Gardner-Hickman has been a fixture in Blues’ line-up recently but reported an injury to the club’s medical department after the 1-0 victory over Lincoln on Saturday.
Davies said: “Taylor has picked up a knock from the weekend’s game and it’s looking like he’s going to be out for a couple of weeks.”
Ethan Laird
Injury: Hamstring
Laird’s body has held up impressively this season but the right-back succumbed to a hamstring injury in the Wycombe win (March 1). He pulled up when chasing back in the 82nd minute and now faces a stint in the treatment room.
Laird is expected to be out until after the international break.
Lyndon Dykes
Injury: Calf
Dykes pulled up on the run during Blues’ 0-0 draw with Reading and hobbled off the field. The Scotland international appeared to be in a lot of discomfort and isn’t likely to be fit for the Vertu Trophy final at Wembley on April 13.
Davies said (February 25): “Hopefully we can see him before the end of this season. I would call it a medium term injury, not a quick turnaround but there’s definitely a route back for him to get back before the end of this season and contribute. We’ll miss him.
“I don’t know whether the cup final might come too soon. I’m not qualified to give that definitive answer but it sounds like the cup final might come too soon. Even after the cup final, there’s probably five league games so can he get back and help us in that period would be the question.”
Dykes is confined to the gym at Blues’ training ground and is still wearing a protective boot.
Scott Wright
Injury: Knee
Wright’s studs got caught in the turf at the Select Car Leasing Stadium and he went down holding his knee with no one around him. It didn’t look good from the outset and Davies has confirmed Wright won’t play again this season.
“Sadly Scott Wright is a longer-term knee injury, which is a real blow. I’m sorry for Scott because he has had some big moments for us this season.”
Lee Buchanan
Injury: Knee
Buchanan suffered a serious knee injury during the draw with Blackpool and will miss the remainder of the season. Davies said: “Lee’s injury is quite severe as everyone would have guessed. He will be out for a considerable amount of time, as you probably saw from the pictures, and he won’t be with us for this season absolutely.”
The left-back is back on his feet at Blues’ training ground and in the early stages of his rehab.
