Ex-Boston Red Sox outfielder sends retirement notice if he doesn’t get his perceived value.
Adam Duvall wants to continue playing baseball, but he doesn’t want to play for less than what he believes he’s worth.
The former Boston Red Sox outfielder told MLB teams that he won’t accept less than $3 million, according to The New York Post’s Joel Sherman. If he doesn’t get at least $3 million, he’ll retire.
Duvall made $3 million during the 2024 season with the Atlanta Braves.
The Kansas City Royals offered Duvall a $1 million contract with the option to reach $2 million with incentives, but Duvall turned it down.
Duvall’s 2024 season with the Braves was one to forget. The 36-year-old batted .182 with 11 home runs, 30 RBI and a .569 OPS.
In 2021, during Duvall’s second stint in Atlanta, he played a key role in helping the Braves to a World Series title with five home runs and 18 RBI.
Duvall spent the 2023 season with the Red Sox and appeared in 92 games. He batted .247 with 21 home runs and 58 RBI.
With Opening Day fast approaching and spring training already under way, it’s unclear if teams will not only take a chance on Duvall, but pay him $3 million after a down season.
