Derby County reach transfer decision on midfielder

AFC Telford has revealed that Derby County academy prospect Harry Hawkins will remain with the club until the end of the season.

The teenager joined the Southern League Central club on loan in December, but he has made such an impact that they want him to stay for the remainder of the season.

Boss Kevin Wilkin said: “Harry has become a regular pick in midfield over recent weeks as part of a move to having a younger group overall, particularly in midfield,” said boss Kevin Wilkin.

“We have more legs in the team now, and Harry has put in some consistent performances.

“He’s still young; he’s not 19 until later this month, so he’s still learning and developing, but he wants to be here to help us.

“Derby are happy for him to stay, and we’re happy he’s staying in the group for the rest of the season.”

Hawkins has made 12 appearances for the Shropshire club who are three points off the top of the table, with a game in hand.

Hawkins joined Jake Buxton’s Under-21s squad on a full-time basis in the summer of 2024 and he has made 10 Premier League 2 appearances this term, captaining the side on two occasions.

Hawkins is not the only Derby academy player out on loan. Tony Weston is currently at Boston United in the National League and so too is Max Bardell who is currently at AFC Fylde.
