Filipino tennis ace Alex Eala delivered an impressive start at the recent ITF 1st Empire Women’s Indoor 2025 in Trnava, Slovakia, showcasing sharp form as she powered through her opening-round match.
The 19-year-old player, determined to regain her rhythm and confidence, made quick work of Switzerland’s Rebeka Masarova, a former world No. 62, with a commanding 6-4, 6-3 victory.
Eala’s return to the ITF circuit comes at a crucial time as she aims to build momentum on tour. While her opening win is a promising sign, the road ahead remains tough, with fellow rising teen stars also eager to make their mark in the tournament.
However, before heading to Slovakia, Eala received a boost of encouragement from none other than Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who has played a key role in Eala’s development through his academy, the Rafa Nadal Academy, in Mallorca, took to social media to commend her progress.
“Learning, enjoying and sharing time and experiences with these young and talented players at the [Rafa Nadal Academy]. Congratulations for everything you are achieving and for your great work on the court and with your studies. Good luck in your next challenges on the [WTA] tour!” Nadal wrote on Instagram, collaborating with Eala herself.
Two weeks ago, the academy also posted a video of Eala training, with the caption: “Hard work in action! Alex Eala & Alina Korneeva, pushing their limits at home in RNA, preparing for their upcoming tournaments, and giving it their all on the court!”
With her first-round victory setting the tone, Eala now shifts her focus to the challenges ahead. A strong performance in Slovakia could further establish her rising presence on the international tennis scene, paving the way for greater success this season.
Eala currently ranks no. 137 as of Feb. 27.
