Penn State tight end Tyler Warren shares his thoughts on the Indianapolis Colts and quarterback Anthony Richardson.
During the NFL Combine, Penn State tight end Tyler Warren, a projected pick for the Indianapolis Colts, was asked about quarterback Anthony Richardson.
“He’s definitely one of a kind and a heck of an athlete at the quarterback position and he’s a great quarterback too,” Warren said. “So that would be really cool.”
Many draft gurus believe Warren is an excellent fit for the Colts. Indianapolis clearly needs a stronger pass-catching presence at the position, and Warren had over 1,200 receiving yards last season.
In addition to his receiving ability, Warren has a highly well-rounded skill set, as he can line up wherever in the formation and is also a superb run blocker. That do-it-all skill offers dimension to any attack and, in some ways, a layer of unpredictability since the tight end can wear so many hats.
This, in turn, can expand the playbook for head coach Shane Steichen and assist Richardson bear the offensive strain.
According to GM Chris Ballard, Richardson will compete for the starting quarterback job this summer. Both Ballard and Steichen believe the competition will benefit Richardson and help him improve his game.
The main thing Steichen wants to see from Richardson after the offseason is more consistency. That begins with improving his fundamentals, which is a priority this offseason.
“Building on the fundamentals and obviously continuing to work on his passing, getting the completion percentage up will be big going forward for him,” Steichen said.
“It’s repetitions. You look at those things, just repetitions going over and over again is going to be big for him. The fundamental part of it. I think he has really quick feet. I’ve said that before, really quick feet, and I think it’s just getting the repetitions with those guys to get that completion percentage up.”
