Derby County apologise after Pride Park ‘alarming clock’ disturbance

This is the second time residents have gotten a nasty surprise in recent months.

Residents near Derby County’s Pride Park reported hearing a loud noise from the stadium early on Wednesday morning (February 26). A video taken around 5.30 a.m. shows a woman waking up to loud noises from the ground’s tannoy system.

This is not the first time residents’ sleep has been disturbed. Back in August, similar sounds were heard echoing around the area, this time between 2am and 2.45am. On that occasion, police attended in case they were required and alerted the fire service too.

A spokesperson for Derby County said of the latest incident: “The emergency alarm was triggered at Pride Park Stadium in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

“A maintenance engineer will be on site over the course of the day to investigate further and perform checks. Whilst this was unfortunately out of the club’s control, we apologise for both the disturbance and inconvenience to anybody affected.”

The noise was heard as far away as Chaddesden and Spondon.

One Chaddesden resident, Nikita Rusko, said: “There’s clearly something wrong with the system because it keeps going off at random times. Last night was exceptionally loud, so I’m guessing the wind was blowing over Chad.” Steve Winson added: “And over Spondon.”
