The Boston Red Sox have begun Spring Training, and fans won’t have to wait long to see the team’s newest stars on the field.
Garrett Crochet and Alex Bregman were unquestionably Boston’s most significant additions this offseason. The Red Sox acquired Crochet in a trade with the Chicago White Sox then signed Bregman in free agency to a three-year, $120 million contract with opt-out clauses.
Neither took the field with Boston when the team began Spring Training on Friday against the Northeastern Huskies. According to MLB.com’s Ian Browne, both players will make their Boston debuts against the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday at JetBlue Park.
“Alex Bregman will make his debut on Sunday at JetBlue Park with Garrett Crochet on the mound,” Browne said.
Now this is exciting. The Red Sox made some terrific offseason signings, and Saturday will be Boston fans’ first chance to see Crochet and Bregman in live play while wearing Red Sox uniforms. Neither will likely see a lot of action on Sunday, but it is still thrilling.
Crochet will undoubtedly receive little action, and it would not be surprising if Bregman were given additional time. WEEI’s Rob Bradford confirmed that he will play third base in the game.
“Cora said Bregman will be playing third base tomorrow at JetBlue Park,” Bradford said.
This is interesting because there have been a lot of talks about which position Bregman will end up playing for Boston.
