Rece Davis Casts Shade on Auburn vs. Alabama Rivalry

The Auburn Tigers and Alabama play in an annual opponents known as the “Iron Bowl” in college football.

The rivalry is mainly for college football, but as supporters saw on Saturday, there is plenty of passion for it in college basketball.

No. 1 Auburn and No. 2 Alabama faced off in Tuscaloosa, with the Tigers pulling away for a 94-85 win. Auburn improved to 23-2 with the victory, separating itself from Alabama in the SEC standings.

However, in college football, the rivalry hasn’t been as close. On Tuesday’s “College GameDay Podcast” episode,” Rece Davis threw some shade at the rivalry.

Auburn’s previous win was in 2019, and Alabama won five straight against the Tigers.

“You and I were just in Tuscaloosa, and I know you don’t get one versus two all the time for Auburn versus Alabama,” Davis said. “There was an electricity surrounding that you wouldn’t get if, you know, if you’re playing a lesser rival.”

Alabama currently tops the all-time series 51-37-1, with its last victory over Auburn keeping the Tigers from reaching a bowl game.

Auburn entered conference play at 2-1 before going on a four-game losing streak. The Tigers snapped the streak by defeating Kentucky 24-10 but then lost to Vanderbilt 17-7 in the following game.
