Five former Moore passers that could be potential signings, including Eagles 5-Star Quarterback Tanner McKee, are promising to follow Kellen Moore to the Saints. Read more.
The New Orleans Saints have officially hired Kellen Moore, the former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator, as their new head coach.
As for the quarterback position, Derek Carr is currently the starter, with Spencer Rattler and Jake Haener as backups. Ben DiNucci has also been re-signed from the 2024 practice squad. However, Moore, who has a background as a former quarterback, may look to make changes to better fit his offensive system. This could involve either parting ways with Carr or bringing in a quarterback he has a history with to serve as a backup and offer coaching experience. Alternatively, he may simply bring in a new quarterback to compete for the role.
Cooper Rush
Cooper Rush, who has been the backup quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys since 2017, is set to become a free agent and could be a familiar option for Moore. Rush played under Moore in Dallas, and the two were teammates in Rush’s final season in the league. Last season, with Dak Prescott injured, Rush made eight starts, completing 60.7% of his passes for 1,844 yards, 12 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. A reunion with Moore could provide Rush with a stable environment in New Orleans.
Tanner McKee
Tanner McKee, a fifth-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, could be another option Moore is interested in. McKee started one game this past season, completing 27 of 41 passes for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and no turnovers. He is still on his rookie contract with Philadelphia, and if Moore is dissatisfied with the current quarterback room, McKee could be an affordable trade option. If McKee hits free agency in a few years, New Orleans could be a potential landing spot.
Andy Dalton
Andy Dalton is another potential candidate, having both experience with the Saints and with Moore. Moore was Dallas’ offensive coordinator during the 2020 season. That year, Dalton started nine games and played in 11, completing 64.9% of his passes for 2,170 yards, 14 touchdowns, and 8 interceptions. Although it wasn’t a standout season, it was one of Dalton’s better performances since leaving the Cincinnati Bengals. Given their past connection, Dalton could be a veteran presence Moore considers for the role.
