It was a challenging season for the San Francisco 49ers, and Brock Purdy had his toughest stretch as a starter. While Purdy faced challenges due to injuries across the offense, particularly to key players like Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk, his performance in 2024 still fell short of expectations compared to last year.

He threw for nearly 400 fewer yards, dropped from 31 touchdowns to 20, and threw one more interception (12) than in 2023. His quarterback ratings, which were 107.3 and 114.0 previously, dropped to 96.1.

Despite missing the playoffs for the first time since 2020, 49ers general manager John Lynch made it clear that Purdy’s future with the team is secure. “What we know about Brock is that he’s our guy. We want him around for a long time,” Lynch stated. “He’s done a lot for the organization, won big games, and faced a tougher challenge this season, like the rest of us, with injuries and other setbacks. We never had a chance to put it all together, but Brock continued to lead and play at a high level. We’re committed to him being part of our future.”

Purdy, who is now eligible for a major contract extension, had a base salary of less than $1 million in 2024 as the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft. His market value, according to Spotrac, is estimated at $59.7 million per year, potentially making him the highest-paid quarterback in the league. He could be looking at a four-year deal worth around $239 million, surpassing contracts of quarterbacks like Kyler Murray, Deshaun Watson, and Jared Goff.
