JUST NOW: MLB insider proposes interesting San Francisco Giants and Kansas City Royals trade idea for 2-time All-Star bat.

Would the Kansas City Royals or San Francisco Giants be able to enhance their lineups by acquiring a two-time All-Star? This week, an MLB insider suggested a deal for both teams.

The positions of the Giants and Royals were drastically different going into the summer. In 2024, Kansas City stunned the baseball community by appearing to be ahead of schedule, making it to the postseason, and pulling off a stunning upset victory over the Baltimore Orioles. Conversely, San Francisco placed fourth in the NL West and finished below.500.

Despite their restrictions, both teams aimed to improve upon their rosters from the previous season. It goes without saying that the Royals are a small market team and will not be offering free agents enormous salaries. In recent years, the Giants have had difficulty luring free agents to San Francisco.

Joel Sherman, an MLB source for the New York Post, however, made an intriguing trade offer on Wednesday that would benefit both teams in exchange for a two-time All-Star from the New York Mets.

Should Starling Marte be traded to the Kansas City Royals or the San Francisco Giants?

Would Marte be used as a lefty reliever by the Giants, who currently have Wilmer Flores projected to be at DH? $13 million was due by Taylor Rogers, Sherman wrote.

The Mets gave Juan Soto a record-breaking contract in December, making the right fielder expendable. He would undoubtedly replace Flores as the designated hitter in the upcoming season if healthy. It might be worth taking the chance of giving up a reliever for him.

2024 Starling Marte stats: 7 HR, 40 RBI, 46 R,.269 AVG,.327 OBP,.388 SLG,.715 OPS

Would the Royals make a Marte trade for Harvey and Renfroe, two Hunters who owe a total of $11.45 million? Sherman wrote. “The Mets would like Harvey to be a set-up man and would either have him as a righty complement to [Jesse] Winker or simply release Renfroe.”

For Kansas City, Marte’s $19.5 million for the upcoming season is a significant sum. But it’s the last year of his contract. He would make a significant contribution to a roster full of youthful players even at age 36.
