January 16 (UPI) –Pacers Sports & Entertainment said Thursday that the Indiana Fever will begin construction this summer on a new $78 million practice facility on the site of a former county jail in downtown Indianapolis.

The NBA’s Indiana Pacers’ home field, Gainbridge Fieldhouse, is where the Fever, led by star player Caitlin Clark, used to train.

In a press statement, PS&E owner Herb Simon stated, “We are thrilled to work with Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett to find the ideal site for the Indiana Fever Sports Performance Center.”

The city of Indianapolis remains a fantastic partner as we improve our community, players, and squad.

In August, work on the 108,000-square-foot complex will begin. It is anticipated that the three-story structure, which will have a skybridge connecting it to the Gainbridge Fieldhouse and a parking garage, will open prior to the 2027 WNBA season.

“Designed to address the specific needs of female athletes competing at the highest level,” the Indiana Fever announced plans for the Sports Performance Center.

Two regulation-size courts, a fully equipped kitchen, a hydration station, a yoga and Pilates room, and strength and conditioning equipment will all be part of the facility. There will also be a sauna, steam room, heat studios, a float tank, hydrotherapy pools, massages, and infrared light therapy.

This top training center is a reflection of our organization’s continued commitment to ensuring that our players have the best level of resources to be successful, Fever president Kelly Krauskopf stated.

As we look to the future, the aim of delivering a first-class player experience developed particularly for women athletes will set us apart.
