German hard rock band The Scorpions plans to honor its 60th anniversary with a “Coming Home” event in the Heinz von Heiden Arena in Hanover, their hometown, on July 5 next year.
“We’re all turned on,” singer Klaus Meine, who has been with the band since 1969, said when the event was announced on Thursday. “In the end, it will be something like a kind of festival,” Meine added.
Guest artists will include British heavy metal bands Judas Priest. The event will be The Scorpions’ sole German concert for the year.
The Scorpions are expecting to gather an audience from the region, Germany, Europe, and the whole world. “It will be an official festival with lots of interesting bands and guests,” Meine stated.
Guitarist Rudolf Schenker set up the band in Sarstedt to the south of Hanover in 1965. While Meine joined in 1969, guitarist Matthias Jabs was added at the end of the 1970s.
The current bass player is Pawel Mąciwodat and the drummer is Mikkey Dee, previously of Motörhead.
The Scorpions have enjoyed a succession of global singles, including “Rock You Like A Hurricane,” “Still Loving You,” and “Wind of Change,” a song to mark the end of the Cold War.
From the start of next year, the band will play shows in Las Vegas, followed by Mexico City and a swing through South America before returning to Europe.
Advance sales for the Hannover event will commence on Monday, with fans who had tickets to cancelled gigs in Germany this year being able to buy theirs early. The cancellations occurred from an injury Jabs sustained to his hand.
