Dodgers Champion Walker Buehler Made a Statement About Finishing Career With Red Sox

Walker Buehler’s name became indelibly engraved in the history of the Los Angeles Dodgers as he took the mound in the ninth inning of World Series Game 5. The right-hander, however, stated that he hopes to retire with the Boston Red Sox less than three months after winning the World Series in Dodger blue.

To get fans excited for the upcoming season, the Red Sox shared a highlight video of Buehler, as any team that acquires a two-time World Series Champion would do. A player who has played for the Dodgers his whole career, Buehler expressed his wish to retire at Fenway in this video.

“I think it was the best decision for me to join a successful club, a historical franchise, a squad that has a real opportunity to win,” Buehler stated. “I’m hoping to contribute this season and play in Boston for the remainder of my career.” Both fresh skill and major league-tested talent abound in Boston. A club that, in my opinion, is prepared and capable of competing both within the division and throughout the league.

It was inevitable that some of the players who contributed to the Dodgers’ 2024 World Series victory would have to go as the franchise tried to assemble another successful group. There are other World Series winners who have found new teams besides Buehler.

The Cincinnati Reds acquired second baseman Gavin Lux from the Dodgers. Lux was selected by the team in the draft, much like Buehler. Reliever Joe Kelly, starting pitcher Jack Flaherty, and utility guy Kiké Hernandez are among the other free agents who have not yet signed.

Buehler’s heroics story will live on in Dodgers legend, but his exit serves as a reminder of baseball’s business side. The Dodgers front office will remember Buehler’s closing out of the Fall Classic game, though.

“What Walker did, what he has done for us, what he did for us this year, his teammates, that does not go lost on us,” general manager Brandon Gomes said in November.
