Breaking News: Georgia football lands USC brothers in transfer portal

It is anticipated that Georgia football will use the link to add former USC brothers.

Georgia football has focused on strengthening its roster via the transfer portal after losing to Notre Dame football in the Sugar Bowl and being eliminated from the College Football Playoff.

According to Pete Nakos of On3, former USC wide receiver Zachariah Branch and his brother, safety Zion Branch, have committed to Georgia and entered the portal.

Zachariah, a sophomore who weighed 175 pounds and was 5 feet 10 inches, was named to the First Team All-American in 2023. He caught 47 passes for 503 yards and a score in 2024, although his output was down. On five tries, Zachariah also averaged 21 yards per kick return.

Zachariah is presently ranked as the fourth overall player, the second wide receiver in the portal, and a four-star transfer by 247Sports. Zachariah was a five-star recruit, the seventh-ranked player in the country, and the top wide receiver in the class of 2023 when he graduated from high school.

During the 2024 season, 6-foot-2, 210-pound redshirt sophomore Zion earned 19 total tackles, two tackles for loss, and one sack. In 2023, he participated in nine games before playing in ten.

Zion is ranked by 247Sports as a three-star transfer, the 270th best player overall, and the 16th best safety in the country. Zion was a four-star recruit out of high school, ranked as the sixth safety in the class of 2022, and ranked as the 58th best player in the country.

The Branch brothers are Georgia football’s first additions via the portal. Ten athletes have signed with the Bulldogs this cycle, including cornerback Julian Humphrey, who committed to Texas A&M football, defensive lineman Jamaal Jarrett, who committed to USC football, and safety Jake Pope.

Georgia football’s transfer class, which has only added two players through the portal thus far, is now ranked No. 13 in the SEC and No. 62 nationally, only surpassed by Florida, Texas, and Tennessee.

Before spring practice starts, Georgia football will probably try to add a couple more transfer players.
