Nasreddine Nabi has had a promising start to life in South Africa, reigniting hope among the Amakhosi faithful, who have endured years without silverware.
Chiefs, however, suffered a 1-0 defeat to SuperSport United tonight, marking their second league loss of the season.
In five matches across all competitions, Nabi has secured three wins and two losses, including impressive back-to-back losses to Mamelodi Sundowns and SuperSport in previous league encounters.
Despite these wins, consistency remains a challenge as Chiefs struggle to find rhythm under the 59-year-old coach.
After the loss to Gavin Hunt’s side, Nabi voiced his frustrations, highlighting the need for the club’s youngsters to sharpen their finishing.
“It’s a game we controlled practically the whole game, unfortunately, we created many opportunities but we couldn’t score and the opponent had only one opportunity and they scored it,” he said as reported by iDiski Times.
“Our young players need to understand to win a football game you need to put the ball in the net but we believe that it’s a lesson, even if it’s a tough one, we hope we can do better.
“We believe that today the mentality was good, was positive even after conceding the goal, they switched on, we pressed, we pushed hard, especially in the second half,” Nabi said about improvement in mentalities.
“We played higher, put numbers in the box, took shots, made crosses, we believed we could change the game, we want that kind of mentality.”
Nabi is trying to build a team that plays with confidence and consistency, but converting chances remains an issue.
With young players still adjusting to his methods, patience will be required to see his philosophy take root.
Despite the setbacks, there are signs of progress, particularly in their mentality after conceding, which reflects a willingness to fight until the final whistle.
Chiefs’ performances show potential, but the team needs to find balance and composure in critical moments if they are to become genuine title contenders.
Having played four league games, with two wins and two losses, Chiefs will look to bounce back as they travel to Limpopo for their next encounter to face Magesi Fc.
They’ll need to tighten up their finishing and learn from their mistakes if they hope to stay competitive in the race for a top-eight spot.
