Mission Fulfilled: Commanders Have Announced The Signing Of Former Pro Bowl RB To Help Backfield After Injuries…

Injuries may prove to be the Washington Commanders’ defining narrative in the second half of the season, as if things weren’t already terrible after three straight losses left them 7-5 and on the verge of the NFC playoff picture.

To be more precise, commanders’ running backs keep getting hurt.

Both Austin Ekeler (concussion) and Brian Robinson (ankle) were sidelined in Week 12’s 34-16 loss to the Dallas Cowboys, and it is extremely unlikely that either will play in Week 13 against the Tennessee Titans before a much-needed bye in Week 14.

The Commanders could thus think about enlisting the assistance of veteran free agency running back Latavius Murray, a former Pro Bowl player, who could be able to fill in and help the squad get by for a few weeks while they attempt to find their way back to victory.

Murray, who is in his 12th NFL season, was the oldest running back in the league with 419 yards from scrimmage (300 rushing and 119 receiving) and 4 touchdowns in 4 starts with the Buffalo Bills in 2023.

The 34-year-old Murray told Tyler Dunne of Go Long that he didn’t want his age to be a deciding factor in whether a team chose to give him another opportunity to play in the league.

Murray informed Long in May 2024, “We’re a lot more scrutinized than other positions once we start to hit that certain age.” “I am aware that the quarterback position does not do our duties. But where do we stand? When you are 30, they ask, “Why would we even consider this?” I’d like to eliminate that stigma. I’m driven to show you that you’re capable of playing for longer.

Highlights of the Pro Bowl Season NFL Journeyman Career

Since the Oakland Raiders chose Murray out of UCF in the sixth round (No. 181 overall) of the 2013 NFL draft, he has bounced all around the league in his 11 seasons in the game.

Murray had his greatest season with the Raiders and earned his only Pro Bowl in 2015 after rushing for 1,066 yards and six touchdowns and hauling in 41 receptions for 232 yards. Murray has played for six NFL teams, including two stints with the New Orleans Saints.

Murray has over 800 yards of total offense in seven of his eleven seasons, including 892 yards and six touchdowns in 2022 while playing for the Saints and Denver Broncos. He also had over 1,000 yards of total offense in 2015 and 2016.

Murray has earned $22.1 million over his 11 seasons in the game.

Both Robinson and Ekeler have battled injuries.

Following a hit late in the Cowboys’ defeat, Ekeler seemed to be totally unconscious and is currently in concussion protocol after suffering his second concussion of the season.

This season, Robinson has missed three games because of an ankle injury, and Ekeler has missed one game because of his first concussion.

However, according to Sharp Football Analysis, Murray has spent the majority of the season as the best free agent running back available. Additionally, he appears to be a stronger alternative than Jeremy McNichols, the Commanders’ third-string running back and now their best option. McNichols ranks fourth on the team with 44 carries for 217 yards and four touchdowns.
