For the most of the 2024 season, the Philadelphia Phillies appeared to be the best baseball team. Unfortunately for them, at the end of the year, it doesn’t matter who plays like the best squad.
Additionally, the Phillies were ousted early in the 2024 postseason and did not play their best baseball in the final stretch. In order to improve for the upcoming season, Philadelphia will need to make some sort of adjustments as they enter the offseason.
According to Jeff Passan of ESPN, Philadelphia wants to make roster changes. One of their 2024 All-Stars might be traded as part of this roster shuffle. “Coming off a career-best season, the 28-year-old (Alec) Bohm nonetheless finds himself on the trade block,” Passan stated.
After the Phillies’ disappointing postseason loss to the (New York) Mets, Passan said, “Bohm was fantastic in the first half of the year.” He was a well-above-average hitter, hitting.280/.332/.448 with 61 extra-base hits, and his first-half OPS was almost 150 points higher than in the second half. His trade value will be high this winter due to his production, especially because he won’t be eligible for free agency until 2027. An All-Star corner infielder who is 28 years old would be a target for several organizations.
The Seattle Mariners are the team that makes the greatest sense for all parties, but the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, and Mets also make sense.
The Phillies need to add a pitcher to their big league roster, but Seattle has an abundance of starting pitchers. Top prospect Andrew Painter may be able to take his place, but Philadelphia would be a far better fit if the Mariners were prepared to part with an arm like Luis Castillo.
