Louisiana’s Baton Rouge. The 2024 American League Gold Glove Award winner at third base is Alex Bregman, a former LSU All-American who now plays for the Houston Astros.

Bregman, who recently finished his tenth season with the Astros, is receiving his first Gold Glove Award, which is given to the greatest defensive player in each league at his position.

Bregman’s Gold Glove Award makes him the second former LSU player to get the honor. DJ LeMahieu, a second baseman, has won four Gold Gloves from the Colorado Rockies (in 2014, 2017, and 2018) and the New York Yankees (2022).

Bregman is the only Astros third baseman to win the award, joining five-time winner Doug Rader (1970–74 in the National League).

In terms of games (142), fielding percentage (.972), assists (242), total chances (355), and putouts (103), Bregman was the top AL third baseman in 2024. In addition, he tied for second in defensive runs saved (six), third in zone rating (.799), and first in outs over average (six).

With 30 doubles, two triples, 26 home runs, 75 RBI, and 79 runs scored, he batted.260 for Houston in 2024.

Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Bregman played for LSU from 2013 to 2015 and guided the Tigers to two trips to the College World Series. He won the 2013 Brooks Wallace Award for finest shortstop in the country and was selected to the first-team all-American team twice.
