**Toyota Racing Rebrands as Toyota Gazoo Racing North America and Introduces GR Corolla Touring Car**
On October 18, 2024, Toyota Motor North America (TMNA) announced a rebranding of its racing division, now known as Toyota Gazoo Racing North America. This change will take effect in 2025, aligning all motorsport activities under the global Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) brand, while TRD USA will continue providing technical support.
The highlight of this announcement is the introduction of the new GR Corolla Touring Car, designated as the Toyota GR Corolla TC. Unveiled at the GR Garage in Mooresville, North Carolina, this race car is set to compete in the revamped 2025 TC America series by SRO.
The GR Corolla TC is built from the standard GR Corolla but has been modified for both track enthusiasts and competitive racers. Key upgrades include Alcon 6-piston front brakes, custom MacPherson struts, JRi dual-adjustable shocks, and various aerodynamic enhancements. It features a 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbo engine, an eight-speed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission, and a GR-Four all-wheel drive system managed by Bosch Motorsport electronics.
Safety is a priority, with an FIA-approved roll cage, an OMP fiberglass seat with a six-point harness, and an OMP electronically activated fire suppression system. Mike Norem, manager of Customer Racing at TGRNA, expressed excitement about transforming the GR Corolla into a race-ready vehicle.
The upcoming 2025 season will merge the TCX and TC classes in SRO America’s TC America series, allowing a broader range of brands to compete. However, details on the GR Corolla TC’s specifications, pricing, and motorsport programs will be released soon. This development also suggests that the street version of the GR Corolla will remain available beyond the 2025 model year.
