Before Week 6, this unsatisfactory acquisition made the decision to address the coaching staff.
Entering Week 6, the Dallas Cowboys had a record of 3-2. Despite their two-game winning streak, things haven’t always gone as planned.
The Cowboys’ pathetic 3.5 yards per run rank them 31st in the NFL in terms of rushing offence (82). Ezekiel Elliott has taken it upon himself to face the coaching staff after this team has failed to mount any kind of ground attack.
Cowboys News: Ezekiel Elliott Discusses His Role with Coaching Staff
Elliott told reporters on Thursday that he discussed his job with the coaching staff. The Ohio State prospect expressed that he “remains bewildered” by his deficiency in red zone production in particular.
With the goal of taking over as the starting backfield workhorse, Elliott signed a one-year contract extension with Dallas in May. He wanted to take matters into his own hands because it is evident that this hasn’t been the case.
The Ohio State recruit has witnessed a steady decline in his snap count. Weekly 1-32, Weekly 2-28, Weekly 3-15, Weekly 4-10, and Weekly 5-23 snaps.
He’s only managed 30 touches for a pitiful 98 rushing yards and one touchdown in five games. Elliott is averaging 19.6 rushing yards per game, which exacerbates the situation. Elliott, horrified by his lack of output, felt it was time to talk to coaches, although that probably won’t make much of a difference.
Running back Rico Dowdle has noticed that the 29-year-old no longer looks like the same athlete. Dowdle had 27 receiving yards and a season-high 87 rushing yards in the victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.
If anyone will receive more carries, it will be Dowdle rather than Elliott. The first-round pick from 2016 may not have much longer in Dallas, as a result of this.
