During a hit on Colts wide receiver Adonai Mitchell late in the third quarter of the Steelers’ 27-24 loss to the Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, safety Minkah Fitzpatrick of the Steelers was cited for unnecessary roughness. The call changed what would have been a third-and-10 into a first down in Steelers territory, with Pittsburgh behind 17-10 at the time. The play can be seen here.
Tomlin informed reporters on Tuesday that he discussed the discussion involving Fitzpatrick with the NFL league headquarters in New York. The NFL acknowledged that the referees made a mistake.
Both of us didn’t enjoy the call, even me. That won’t be useful to me on Monday,” Tomlin remarked.
On the drive where Fitzpatrick was flagged for unnecessary roughness, the Colts scored a touchdown to take a 24-10 lead. After the game, Fitzpatrick voiced his disapproval of the referees.
You can see why Tomlin and the Steelers are upset; if Fitzpatrick hadn’t been called for a penalty, they would have had a fantastic opportunity to stop the Colts and get the ball back down one score. The NFL owning up to its error surely won’t bring much comfort.
A former wide receiver for the Arizona Cardinals is coming to Pittsburgh to work out.
According to team insider Joe Rutter, former Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Andy Isabella is currently working out with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Source: WR Andy Isabella, a former second-round selection of the Arizona Cardinals, is being worked out by the Steelers. He spent last year with Buffalo.
Former general manager Steve Keim selected Isabella in the second round of the 2019 MLB Draft by the Cardinals.
Although the Cardinals wide receiver failed to demonstrate consistent performance throughout his time in Arizona, catching 31 catches in his first 36 games with the team, Isabella’s speed was brought to the desert with the hopes of having a genuine impact.
After being cut by the Cardinals in October 2022, Isabella spent the following two seasons playing just four games on the practice squads of the Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Ravens.
Prior to the start of the regular season, Isabella participated in team workouts with the Atlanta Falcons.
If Cordarrelle Patterson is forced to miss time, Isabella might give Pittsburgh depth, according to the Steelers on SI.
“It’s unclear if a contract is close to happening, but if Patterson—who hurt his ankle in Week 4—has to miss time, Isabella would give the Steelers vital depth on special teams.”
Right now, Pittsburgh has George Pickens, Van Jefferson, Calvin Austin III, Scotty Miller, and Roman Wilson listed as their five active receivers.
With a 3-1 record, the Steelers suffered their first defeat of the 2024 season in Week 4.
The next two weeks will see the Cardinals travel to face the Green Bay Packers and San Francisco 49ers, two formidable opponents. On the other side, they are 1-3.
