Angel Reese of the Chicago Sky revealed on Saturday that she would miss the remainder of the season due to a wrist injury, marking the loss of one of the WNBA’s brightest emerging stars. The media naturally wanted Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark to comment on her friend’s unfortunate situation.
Clark, via Chloe Peterson of Indy Star Sport, expressed how depressing the scenario is.
Regarding Angel Reese’s wrist injury that ended her season, Caitlin Clark said, “It’s just heartbreaking to see someone go down with an injury, especially someone you came into this league with… she’s had a historic year, and she’s done some fantastic things.”
Certainly, it is heartbreaking to witness someone you joined this league with suffer an injury. Whether it’s Cam [Eron Brink] or Angel, in particular, you want to see her play out the season, Clark explained. She’s accomplished some amazing things and had a historic year. She has one of, if not the finest motor in the league, in my opinion, as I play against her. She simply never stops working. Congrats to her; I felt that she had an amazing year.
Reese broke the WNBA single-season rebounding record and became the fastest player in history to reach 20 double-doubles in his historic debut campaign.
The LSU graduate is only the second player in league history to record 26 doubles in a single season, with her current streak of 15 games unbeaten.
Before Fever Dream, Caitlin Clark waxed lyrical about Angel Reese.
Speaking to the media prior to the Fever’s matchup with the Atlanta Dream, Clark bemoaned Reese’s and Brink’s misfortune.
It’s terrible because I believed that since I’ve known Riley, she entered the league and performed admirably at all she has ever done. For a player, it’s never what you want to see,” Clark added. It goes without saying that there have been a few more injuries to our draft class than you may have preferred. I don’t know the exact facts of either of their two incidents, but some of those things are unavoidable, especially in basketball.
But Clark is determined to not let her compassion get in the way of her goal.
“While I’m sad for them, I think you should just keep taking care of your body and yourself,” Clark said in closing. “You really need to emphasise that because it’s a long season, especially if you’re playing games with one day in between, but like I said, some of those things are just unavoidable, and it’s horrible to see.”
But through her social media, Reese is refusing to let Sky fans give up on their aspirations for the playoffs just yet.
I cherish all the prayers and well wishes and adore you all! We’re not done yet, even though I know you guys would sacrifice your wrist in an instant to give it to me! SKYTOWN, SET GO! stated Reese.
After their game against the Dallas Wings on Sunday, Chicago has five more games to guarantee a postseason berth. For the eighth and final seed that can qualify, it is currently tied with Dream.
