World Records and Stunning Upsets Highlight the Rain-Soaked Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League

Richardson Outpaces Alfred, Tebogo Takes 200m at Zurich Diamond League

The Weltklasse Zurich Diamond League saw fantastic contests at a sold-out Letzigrund Stadium despite the chilly and rainy weather.

Beatrice Chebet, a two-time Olympic champion, put on a show that night by setting a meeting record and setting a world record in the 5000 metres. In a swift 200-meter race, Letsile Tebogo won in 19.55. Olympic winners have lost a number of rematches.

800m: Moraa easily defeated G. Bell in 1:57.08 (1:57.94).

5k: Chebet led after 3km (8:25.72) and won by himself in a world-best time of 14:09.52, setting a meeting record as well as the seventh-best time ever. Second place went to Taye (14:28.76).

100-meter hurdles: Camacho-Quinn prevailed in this rematch at the Olympics in 12.36 (0.8), ahead of Russell (12.47) and Samba-Mayela (12.40).

400-meter hurdles: Surprisingly, Salmon defeated Cockrell (53.17) with a personal best time of 52.97.

High jump: Mahuchikh won the Diamond League for the seventh time in a row with a jump of 1.96 metres (saved from 1.93 metres on her final attempt), besting Olyslagers and Gerashchenko (1.93 metres).

Switzerland defeated the Netherlands in 42.55 in the non-DL 4x100m event.

Zürich Men’s Brief Evaluations

200 metres: Tebogo outran Bednarek (19.57 PB) in the last few metres, winning in 19.55 (0.4). Kerley came in fourth (19.81), and Knighton came in third (19.79).

400m (non-DL): Spitz wins at home against Haydock-Wilson in 45.30 (45.41).

1500m: Nuguse was the only competitor who could match Ingebrigtsen’s acceleration in the final lap, setting up a flawless Olympic rematch. Leading from the start, Nuguse finished in 3:29.21, ahead of Ingebrigtsen (3:29.52), Hocker (3:30.46), Laros (3:31.23), and Kerr (3:31.46).

3000m (non-DL): Kimeli (7:41.30 PB) was trailed by Krop and Kemboi, who finished 1-2 in 7:34.80 and 7:35.46, respectively.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Holloway defeated Zhoya (13.10 PB) in 12.99 (-0.3).

400-meter hurdles: Clarke defeated Samba (47.58) in 47.49 to capture his first Diamond League victory. After the first half, Dos Santos pulled out, and Warholm left the game late due to a hamstring strain from Thursday’s 100 metres.

Pole vault (non-DL): Duplantis defeated Kendricks on countback despite the unfavourable conditions; both cleared 5.82 metres.

Long jump: Pinnock defeated Tentoglou with a leap of 8.02 metres (-1.2) in the second round, clearing 8.18 metres (-0.9).

Crouser threw a shot put of 22.66 metres, greater than Fabbri’s (21.86 metres) mark in each of his six attempts.

Throwing the javelin, Peters beat Weber (85.33m) and Dean (82.69m) with a winning throw of 85.72m.
